I hit a wall . . .

Well, after exercising for over 4 straight weeks now, I've hit a wall. I've been really good about it, 5 days a week, sometimes 3 times a day, and I've cut back on calorie intake too. So I decided to weigh myself yesterday. Big mistake! Not much of a difference. I was very disappointed. My husband tried to cheer me up by telling me I'm building muscle mass and toning up. That helped a little. I think the worst thing, though, was trying on shorts and capri's that I've been trying to fit back into, and they still don't fit. And to make it a double whammy, I think the little bit of weight I did lose came from my bustline! Not good for a person who is bustline challenged! My sister told me that's the first thing to go. So what am I going to do with that wall? Hopefully I'll decide to climb right over it and keep going.

  1. Oh Lori!!!!! I so feel you! I have hyperthyroidism and they put me on medication that made me gain weight! RUDE!!! I gained like 15 pounds and it's all in my butt and thighs. So when I tried on all my capris and shorts they are all too snug!!!! I was doing good on exercise, but I couldn't lose a pound. Then the TV in the garage stopped working and that was all I needed to stop! I need to start again soon. I put on a bathing suit the other day and Oh MY! Who's derriere is that anyway??????

  3. Sorry... I posted a comment, but then realized that I has some typos. You can't edit your comment, you have to just delete it. So, here basically what I said before.
I feel the same way. I have been working out too, and trying to lose weight, but nothing has happened so far. Dave said the same thing about building muscle... I don't know that it made me feel any better though. I guess I will have to try a "celery and water diet" or something. Let me know if you find something else that works!! :-)

  4. When you two come up with something that works...I'm with you!!! Until then, my capris and swimsuit are too snug also:(

  5. That's been my biggest challenge, to lose weight. I honestly tried changing my diet and felt that I did good, I had small portion meals, water, fruits, and vegetables every day, but once I got on top of that scale(that I call evil!), boy was I wrong!! It's still a challenge now, but I know I can do it, just tell yourself that you can!! When I saw you three weeks ago at Audrey's, honestly Lori, you look GREAT!!!!

  6. I saw the basket that you made for your sister in law and it was so beautiful! You are so talented! If you are ever up to walking in the evenings let me know. I do a 2 mile walk around your neighborhood as many nights a week as I can. :)

  7. I hear ya Lori. Losing weight is so difficult and really just stinks. No way around that fact. But I'm going to have to second Sunny's comment: I think you are looking great.

I do know however, that other's opinions don't really matter to us when it comes to what we look like. We all have our ideal picture and when we don't match that we don't like what we see, no matter who says what. So for me I am really trying- trying is the key word here- to focus on being happy with who I am. There are certain areas I would SO like to change, but that's not going to happen without some elective surgieries *wink, wink*. There's no way that's happening though. I guess it doesn't bug me that much!
For me the solution is to get over myself and focus on the things that I like about my physical appearance. But even that is hard to do some days! HA!
Keep up the good work- for now, who cares what that stupid scale says? As long as you feel good, that's what matters! You'll get the results you want if you hang in there and keep moving! You rock!

  8. Lori! Why IS that?! When I gain, face, butt, and thighs, when I loose weight, I loose it in the bust first! Not fair!
What worked for me is Slim in 6 by Debbie Sebers, I lost 35lbs in a about 5 months, and kept it off for 6 months! I worked out for about 45 minutes 6 days a week, which was totally do-able. I LOVED it!!! I saw results pretty quick, I didn't even change my diet, except that I stopped eating after 6:00pm. I tried not to weigh myself, but the clothes I wanted to fit in to ($100 pair of pre-marriage jeans I CAN NOT give away because it hurts that I spent that much money) I got back into them... It was really exciting! I felt stronger, and it really helped with my back problems too. Try it!
If you want to borrow mine for a couple months, you are welcome to until the baby comes. It's a lot of money, but so worth it!

  9. I am so sorry! There is nothing more discouraging than that! I agree with everyone else also. First, you look wonderful! Last night I was thinking you looked so good...I swear it and I was planning to say it and then I got distracted so I really wish I would have. Then I saw you get up during sacrament today and I thought the same thing again but I didn't run into you ever. Second, I think your husband is right. You start gaining muscle first so the weight doesn't come off right away but seriously!, you want to see those numbers going down!!! Lastly, thanks so much for coming last night! We were so happy that you did and I hope your son is doing okay today. We thought about you guys many times during the night (especially when Metallica came up) and many people asked about you guys after you left. Tell Dylan I am sorry to put him on the spot for the prayer. He was the closest male by me but then I thought after he probably gets tired of being expected to do all the time at these things so I hope he will forgive me. Good luck with the diet! I don't think you need it but I also understand completely what Audrey said about our own personal ideals and getting there. I think it is awesome that you are working at it. Maybe I can get motivated. Okay, this is WAY too long for a blog comment!

P.S. Your salsa was FABULOUS!!! At least 6 different people asked who made it after you left.

  10. I hear you sister. Definitely frustrating. My only suggestion is to have a buddy. Sharlene and I work out together and so it's easier to exercise knowing someone else is waiting for you. Also, we have "confession" - you know...I totally just ate 3 cookies kind of confession. Then we challenge each other to do better and then follow up with each other. So...if you are looking for some buddies - we are running, and sometimes biking every morning - around 6:00 and then we are lifting weights a couple of times a week (which is at Sharlene's house so it's kid friendly)- so if you'd like to join us for any of it, please do! Seriously!

P.S. I am so glad I found your blog!

  11. I'm back at it again too! I hate the comment, "you look great for having 6 kids!" I want to look great because I look great! I agree with Kira. A partner is the best. You need someone to report to and keep you on track. I've been trying to just get out and walk for exercise and mental health. It is hard to eat right and get in some exercise when you're a mom. You are looking smokin'! We are always hardest on ourselves!
